State EMS Update |
Sean
Trask introduced Mike Conley. Mike will assume Sean Trask’s position, as he
has been promoted. Mike is currently an RN, and was an EMT previously. ·
Consolidation
with DHS is still not dead issue. Senate budget staff members approached EMS
Authority members indicating it is unlikely to be approved. Assembly budget
hearing is this month. Review of the consolidation proposal must go through
them as well. ·
EMT-I/PM
Taskforce finished new regulations, which will go out for public comment in
May. ·
EMT-I
revision has been made. The National Registry has been chosen as
certification, which will go into effect one year after the implementation of
the regulation. Written and skills exam chosen. ·
EMT
CE/ PM Taskforce recommends separate chapter for CE. CE requirements status
quo. Specific college courses can be acceptable. EMT-I re-testing will be
eliminated as long as the EMT-I remains current with CE. Every two years,
skills competency based testing will be required during the course of a
refresher course. ·
Out-of-state
reciprocity/National Registry EMT-I will not have to challenge to practice
within the state of California. ·
Optional
skills ETT will be eliminated (EMDAC) from trial studies and further
progression toward implanting into the basic SOP. The Combitube will remain. ·
Narcan,
NTG, bronchodilators, ASA, Activated Charcoal, SQ Epinephrine, Blood glucose
check/optional scope. Should a local EMS Agency wish to implement the
optional skills, all would have to be chosen. There cannot be only select
components chosen. ·
MARK
I Kit may be implemented as an optional skill. ·
EMT-Dispatcher
guidelines, LACO counsel wanted opinion from the Attorney General’s office,
which commented on the recommendations. The guidelines have been approved. ·
Assembly
Bill 1655 introduced by Assembly Member Negrete McLeod. Bill requires
employers to report any actions taken to the local EMS medical director and
the Authority. This bill also authorizes the Authority to impose fines on
specific inappropriate conduct. ·
Vision
Project has been implemented. |
