Welcome/Call To Order

Meeting called to order by Elaine Dethlefsen at 1030 hours. Gratitude extended to Kelly Lazarus and Montecito Fire Department.

Heather Davis, MS, NREMT-P: Los Angeles County Fire Department: Education Program Director- hdavis@lacofd.org

  • NAEMSE commissioned NHTSA to revise EMS instructor course (40-hour)
  • Key players prehospital representatives, fire representatives, emergency medicine physicians representatives, and educators
  • Important to focus on practical application of knowledge for all training staff
  • Course material taught in modules
  • Course material written as didactic (lecture); Web-based; kinesthetic
  • Time frame of course is not defined. The course may be taught based upon individual program needs.
  • Curriculum is not the course. Curriculum is integrated with modules.
  • Curriculum may be printed by accessing www.nhtsa.org
  • Train-the-trainer educator course will be implemented this fall
  • Standardization of course material; skill-based application utilizing scenarios

State EMS Report Update

State budgetary cuts no longer allow EMS Authority members to travel. Mike and Sean send their best.

 

EMT-I Regulations Task Force Update

  • Three groups to make changes Vision, EMT, PM made recommendations to Commission-OAL. Role out period 2006. Package will include EMT/PM and CE/QI changes
  • Must be accepted as one package.
  • Standardized curriculum (DOT curriculum)with enhancements
  • National Registry test recommended as the standardized tests. Will go the Commission. Currently certified EMTs will be grandfathered. Nor will they be required to take refresher course. Will have to take skills validation (not “test”).
  • 24 hours of CE plus Skills hours added recommended
  • Current Expanded Scope will remain
  • ETT recommended to be removed/Combitube remains as required course teaching-remains optional
